Good News Translation

When Jesus got out of the boat, he saw this large crowd, and his heart was filled with pity for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began to teach them many things.

and can command them in battle, so that your community will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”

Jesus got out of the boat, and when he saw the large crowd, his heart was filled with pity for them, and he healed their sick.

Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I feel sorry for these people, because they have been with me for three days and now have nothing to eat. I don't want to send them away without feeding them, for they might faint on their way home.”

As he saw the crowds, his heart was filled with pity for them, because they were worried and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Many people, however, saw them leave and knew at once who they were; so they went from all the towns and ran ahead by land and arrived at the place ahead of Jesus and his disciples.

When it was getting late, his disciples came to him and said, “It is already very late, and this is a lonely place.

Not long afterward another large crowd came together. When the people had nothing left to eat, Jesus called the disciples to him and said,

“I feel sorry for these people, because they have been with me for three days and now have nothing to eat.

When the crowds heard about it, they followed him. He welcomed them, spoke to them about the Kingdom of God, and healed those who needed it.

This means that he had to become like his people in every way, in order to be their faithful and merciful High Priest in his service to God, so that the people's sins would be forgiven.

Our High Priest is not one who cannot feel sympathy for our weaknesses. On the contrary, we have a High Priest who was tempted in every way that we are, but did not sin.
