Good News Translation

At three o'clock Jesus cried out with a loud shout, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why did you abandon me?”

My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? I have cried desperately for help, but still it does not come.

Don't hide yourself from me! Don't be angry with me; don't turn your servant away. You have been my help; don't leave me, don't abandon me, O God, my savior.

To God, my defender, I say, “Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go on suffering from the cruelty of my enemies?”

They say, “God has abandoned him; let's go after him and catch him; there is no one to rescue him.”

“When my people in their need look for water, when their throats are dry with thirst, then I, the Lord, will answer their prayer; I, the God of Israel, will never abandon them.

“Look at me!” she cries to everyone who passes by. “No one has ever had pain like mine, Pain that the Lord brought on me in the time of his anger.

Why have you abandoned us so long? Will you ever remember us again?

While I was praying, Gabriel, whom I had seen in the earlier vision, came flying down to where I was. It was the time for the evening sacrifice to be offered.

At noon the whole country was covered with darkness, which lasted for three hours.

At about three o'clock Jesus cried out with a loud shout, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why did you abandon me?”

It was nine o'clock in the morning when they crucified him.

Some of the people there heard him and said, “Listen, he is calling for Elijah!”

It was about twelve o'clock when the sun stopped shining and darkness covered the whole country until three o'clock; and the curtain hanging in the Temple was torn in two.

Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Father! In your hands I place my spirit!” He said this and died.

It was about three o'clock one afternoon when he had a vision, in which he clearly saw an angel of God come in and say to him, “Cornelius!”

In his life on earth Jesus made his prayers and requests with loud cries and tears to God, who could save him from death. Because he was humble and devoted, God heard him.
