Good News Translation

When he came back the third time, he said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come! Look, the Son of Man is now being handed over to the power of sinners.

At noon Elijah started making fun of them: “Pray louder! He is a god! Maybe he is day-dreaming or relieving himself, or perhaps he's gone off on a trip! Or maybe he's sleeping, and you've got to wake him up!”

When he appeared before King Ahab, the king asked him, “Micaiah, should King Jehoshaphat and I go and attack Ramoth, or not?” “Attack!” Micaiah answered. “Of course you'll win. The Lord will give you victory.”

“Why should I help you?” Elisha said to the king of Israel. “Go and consult those prophets that your father and mother consulted.” “No!” Joram replied. “It is the Lord who has put us three kings at the mercy of the king of Moab.”

Young people, enjoy your youth. Be happy while you are still young. Do what you want to do, and follow your heart's desire. But remember that God is going to judge you for whatever you do.

The Sovereign Lord says, “And now, all you Israelites, suit yourselves! Go on and serve your idols! But I warn you that after this you will have to obey me and stop dishonoring my holy name by offering gifts to your idols.

“In two days, as you know, it will be the Passover Festival, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”

Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went off to the chief priests in order to betray Jesus to them.

While they were at the table eating, Jesus said, “I tell you that one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me.”

He went a little farther on, threw himself on the ground, and prayed that, if possible, he might not have to go through that time of suffering.

Then he came back to the disciples and found them asleep; they could not keep their eyes open. And they did not know what to say to him.

Get up, let us go. Look, here is the man who is betraying me!”

And Jesus continued, “You have a clever way of rejecting God's law in order to uphold your own teaching.

because he was teaching his disciples: “The Son of Man will be handed over to those who will kill him. Three days later, however, he will rise to life.”

Jesus answered them, “The hour has now come for the Son of Man to receive great glory.

“Now my heart is troubled—and what shall I say? Shall I say, ‘Father, do not let this hour come upon me’? But that is why I came—so that I might go through this hour of suffering.

After Jesus finished saying this, he looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your Son, so that the Son may give glory to you.

Then they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.

Jesus said all this as he taught in the Temple, in the room where the offering boxes were placed. And no one arrested him, because his hour had not come.

Was there any prophet that your ancestors did not persecute? They killed God's messengers, who long ago announced the coming of his righteous Servant. And now you have betrayed and murdered him.

Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them rescue you when you get in trouble.”
