Good News Translation

The Son of Man will die as the Scriptures say he will; but how terrible for that man who will betray the Son of Man! It would have been better for that man if he had never been born!”

I will make you and the woman hate each other; her offspring and yours will always be enemies. Her offspring will crush your head, and you will bite her offspring's heel.”

May my enemies die before their time; may they go down alive into the world of the dead! Evil is in their homes and in their hearts.

Many people were shocked when they saw him; he was so disfigured that he hardly looked human.

“Seven times seventy years is the length of time God has set for freeing your people and your holy city from sin and evil. Sin will be forgiven and eternal justice established, so that the vision and the prophecy will come true, and the holy Temple will be rededicated.

And at the end of that time God's chosen leader will be killed unjustly. The city and the Temple will be destroyed by the invading army of a powerful ruler. The end will come like a flood, bringing the war and destruction which God has prepared.

The Lord Almighty says, “Wake up, sword, and attack the shepherd who works for me! Kill him, and the sheep will be scattered. I will attack my people

But in that case, how could the Scriptures come true which say that this is what must happen?”

But all this has happened in order to make come true what the prophets wrote in the Scriptures.” Then all the disciples left him and ran away.

Jesus answered, “It will be one of you twelve, one who dips his bread in the dish with me.

While they were eating, Jesus took a piece of bread, gave a prayer of thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples. “Take it,” he said, “this is my body.”

Day after day I was with you teaching in the Temple, and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must come true.”

The Son of Man will die as God has decided, but how terrible for that man who betrays him!”

Then he said to them, “These are the very things I told you about while I was still with you: everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the writings of the prophets, and the Psalms had to come true.”

Jesus knew that by now everything had been completed; and in order to make the scripture come true, he said, “I am thirsty.”

to serve as an apostle in the place of Judas, who left to go to the place where he belongs.”

In accordance with his own plan God had already decided that Jesus would be handed over to you; and you killed him by letting sinful men crucify him.

For indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together in this city with the Gentiles and the people of Israel against Jesus, your holy Servant, whom you made Messiah.
