they saw him, but somehow did not recognize him.
Although Joseph recognized his brothers, they did not recognize him.
After this, Jesus appeared in a different manner to two of them while they were on their way to the country.
As they talked and discussed, Jesus himself drew near and walked along with them;
Jesus said to them, “What are you talking about to each other, as you walk along?” They stood still, with sad faces.
Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he disappeared from their sight.
Then she turned around and saw Jesus standing there; but she did not know that it was Jesus.
As the sun was rising, Jesus stood at the water's edge, but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.
