Jesus looked at them and asked, “What, then, does this scripture mean? ‘The stone which the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most important of all.’

The stone which the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most important of all.

This, now, is what the Sovereign Lord says: “I am placing in Zion a foundation that is firm and strong. In it I am putting a solid cornerstone on which are written the words, ‘Faith that is firm is also patient.’

From among them will come rulers, leaders, and commanders to govern my people.

I am placing in front of Joshua a single stone with seven facets. I will engrave an inscription on it, and in a single day I will take away the sin of this land.

Jesus said to them, “Haven't you ever read what the Scriptures say? ‘The stone which the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most important of all. This was done by the Lord; what a wonderful sight it is!’

Jesus looked around at his disciples and said to them, “How hard it will be for rich people to enter the Kingdom of God!”

Surely you have read this scripture? ‘The stone which the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most important of all.

Jesus was angry as he looked around at them, but at the same time he felt sorry for them, because they were so stubborn and wrong. Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and it became well again.

He came closer to the city, and when he saw it, he wept over it,

For I tell you that the scripture which says, ‘He shared the fate of criminals,’ must come true about me, because what was written about me is coming true.”

The Lord turned around and looked straight at Peter, and Peter remembered that the Lord had said to him, “Before the rooster crows tonight, you will say three times that you do not know me.”

Then he said to them, “These are the very things I told you about while I was still with you: everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the writings of the prophets, and the Psalms had to come true.”

This, however, was bound to happen so that what is written in their Law may come true: ‘They hated me for no reason at all.’

Jesus is the one of whom the scripture says, ‘The stone that you the builders despised turned out to be the most important of all.’

You, too, are built upon the foundation laid by the apostles and prophets, the cornerstone being Christ Jesus himself.

For the scripture says, “I chose a valuable stone, which I am placing as the cornerstone in Zion; and whoever believes in him will never be disappointed.”
