Good News Translation

So he got up and started back to his father. “He was still a long way from home when his father saw him; his heart was filled with pity, and he ran, threw his arms around his son, and kissed him.

But Esau ran to meet him, threw his arms around him, and kissed him. They were both crying.

He threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and began to cry; Benjamin also cried as he hugged him.

“Israel, you are my dearest child, the one I love best. Whenever I mention your name, I think of you with love. My heart goes out to you; I will be merciful.

“How can I give you up, Israel? How can I abandon you? Could I ever destroy you as I did Admah, or treat you as I did Zeboiim? My heart will not let me do it! My love for you is too strong.

I am no longer fit to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired workers.”’

‘Father,’ the son said, ‘I have sinned against God and against you. I am no longer fit to be called your son.’

For God's promise was made to you and your children, and to all who are far away—all whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”

They were all crying as they hugged him and kissed him good-bye.

But now, in union with Christ Jesus you, who used to be far away, have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

So Christ came and preached the Good News of peace to all—to you Gentiles, who were far away from God, and to the Jews, who were near to him.
