Luke 14:1

Good News Translation

One Sabbath Jesus went to eat a meal at the home of one of the leading Pharisees; and people were watching Jesus closely.

Wicked people watch good people and try to kill them;

Those who come to see me are not sincere; they gather bad news about me and then go out and tell it everywhere.

You only want to bring him down from his place of honor; you take pleasure in lies. You speak words of blessing, but in your heart you curse him.

“Come on and have some more,” he says, but he doesn't mean it. What he thinks is what he really is.

And a human being is worth much more than a sheep! So then, our Law does allow us to help someone on the Sabbath.”

Some people were there who wanted to accuse Jesus of doing wrong; so they watched him closely to see whether he would cure the man on the Sabbath.

When Jesus finished speaking, a Pharisee invited him to eat with him; so he went in and sat down to eat.

A man whose legs and arms were swollen came to Jesus,

Some Pharisees asked Jesus when the Kingdom of God would come. His answer was, “The Kingdom of God does not come in such a way as to be seen.

So they looked for an opportunity. They bribed some men to pretend they were sincere, and they sent them to trap Jesus with questions, so that they could hand him over to the authority and power of the Roman Governor.

Some teachers of the Law and some Pharisees wanted a reason to accuse Jesus of doing wrong, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath.

There was a Jewish leader named Nicodemus, who belonged to the party of the Pharisees.

But one of them, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, who was a teacher of the Law and was highly respected by all the people, stood up in the Council. He ordered the apostles to be taken out for a while,
