Good News Translation

Sell all your belongings and give the money to the poor. Provide for yourselves purses that don't wear out, and save your riches in heaven, where they will never decrease, because no thief can get to them, and no moth can destroy them.

Some people pretend to be rich, but have nothing. Others pretend to be poor, but own a fortune.

You have planted much grain, but have harvested very little. You have food to eat, but not enough to make you full. You have wine to drink, but not enough to get drunk on! You have clothing, but not enough to keep you warm. And workers cannot earn enough to live on.

Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; then come and follow me.”

But give what is in your cups and plates to the poor, and everything will be ritually clean for you.

And Jesus concluded, “This is how it is with those who pile up riches for themselves but are not rich in God's sight.”

And Jesus went on to say, “And so I tell you: make friends for yourselves with worldly wealth, so that when it gives out, you will be welcomed in the eternal home.

When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “There is still one more thing you need to do. Sell all you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; then come and follow me.”

He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief. He carried the money bag and would help himself from it.

They would sell their property and possessions, and distribute the money among all, according to what each one needed.

They have been severely tested by the troubles they went through; but their joy was so great that they were extremely generous in their giving, even though they are very poor.
