Joshua 11:6

Good News Translation

The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them. By this time tomorrow I will have killed all of them for Israel. You are to cripple their horses and burn their chariots.”

David captured seventeen hundred of his cavalry and twenty thousand of his foot soldiers. He kept enough horses for a hundred chariots and crippled all the rest.

“Don't be afraid,” Elisha answered. “We have more on our side than they have on theirs.”

Attack them tomorrow as they come up the pass at Ziz. You will meet them at the end of the valley that leads to the wild country near Jeruel.

“Stop fighting,” he says, “and know that I am God, supreme among the nations, supreme over the world.”

The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Children are fortunate if they have a father who is honest and does what is right.

Instead, you plan to escape from your enemies by riding fast horses. And you are right—escape is what you will have to do! You think your horses are fast enough, but those who pursue you will be faster!

Those who go to Egypt for help are doomed! They are relying on Egypt's vast military strength—horses, chariots, and soldiers. But they do not rely on the Lord, the holy God of Israel, or ask him for help.

The people who live in the cities of Israel will go out and collect the abandoned weapons for firewood. They will build fires with the shields, bows, arrows, spears, and clubs, and have enough to last for seven years.

Assyria can never save us, and war horses cannot protect us. We will never again say to our idols that they are our God. O Lord, you show mercy to those who have no one else to turn to.”

“I am your enemy!” says the Lord Almighty. “I will burn up your chariots. Your soldiers will be killed in war, and I will take away everything that you took from others. The demands of your envoys will no longer be heard.”

Destroy every nation that the Lord your God places in your power, and do not show them any mercy. Do not worship their gods, for that would be fatal.

The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them. I have already given you the victory. Not one of them will be able to stand against you.”

All of these kings joined forces and came together and set up camp at Merom Brook to fight against Israel.

So Joshua and all his men attacked them by surprise at Merom Brook.

Joshua did to them what the Lord had commanded: he crippled their horses and burned their chariots.

Joshua told the people, “Purify yourselves, because tomorrow the Lord will perform miracles among you.”

That night the Lord commanded Gideon, “Get up and attack the camp; I am giving you victory over it.

They said to the messengers from Jabesh, “Tell your people that before noon tomorrow they will be rescued.” When the people of Jabesh received the message, they were overjoyed
