Jonah 4:9

Good News Translation

But God said to him, “What right do you have to be angry about the plant?” Jonah replied, “I have every right to be angry—angry enough to die!”

Ahab went home, depressed and angry over what Naboth had said to him. He lay down on his bed, facing the wall, and would not eat.

You are only hurting yourself with your anger. Will the earth be deserted because you are angry? Will God move mountains to satisfy you?

Be careful not to let bribes deceive you, or riches lead you astray.

To worry yourself to death with resentment would be a foolish, senseless thing to do.

Jonah was very unhappy about this and became angry.

The Lord said to him, “This plant grew up in one night and disappeared the next; you didn't do anything for it and you didn't make it grow—yet you feel sorry for it!

After the sun had risen, God sent a hot east wind, and Jonah was about to faint from the heat of the sun beating down on his head. So he wished he were dead. “I am better off dead than alive,” he said.

and he said to them, “The sorrow in my heart is so great that it almost crushes me. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

For the sadness that is used by God brings a change of heart that leads to salvation—and there is no regret in that! But sadness that is merely human causes death.

During those five months they will seek death, but will not find it; they will want to die, but death will flee from them.

She kept on asking him, day after day. He got so sick and tired of her bothering him about it
