Good News Translation

Early the next morning he went back to the Temple. All the people gathered around him, and he sat down and began to teach them.

Work hard at whatever you do, because there will be no action, no thought, no knowledge, no wisdom in the world of the dead—and that is where you are going.

“For twenty-three years, from the thirteenth year that Josiah son of Amon was king of Judah until this very day, the Lord has spoken to me, and I have never failed to tell you what he said. But you have paid no attention.

They turned their backs on me; and though I kept on teaching them, they would not listen and learn.

I kept sending you my servants the prophets, who told you not to do this terrible thing that I hate.

Then Jesus spoke to the crowd, “Did you have to come with swords and clubs to capture me, as though I were an outlaw? Every day I sat down and taught in the Temple, and you did not arrest me.

Jesus spent those days teaching in the Temple, and when evening came, he would go out and spend the night on the Mount of Olives.

Early each morning all the people went to the Temple to listen to him.

Jesus rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. All the people in the synagogue had their eyes fixed on him,

Jesus got into one of the boats—it belonged to Simon—and asked him to push off a little from the shore. Jesus sat in the boat and taught the crowd.

“My food,” Jesus said to them, “is to obey the will of the one who sent me and to finish the work he gave me to do.

Jesus said all this as he taught in the Temple, in the room where the offering boxes were placed. And no one arrested him, because his hour had not come.

The teachers of the Law and the Pharisees brought in a woman who had been caught committing adultery, and they made her stand before them all.

The apostles obeyed, and at dawn they entered the Temple and started teaching. The High Priest and his companions called together all the Jewish elders for a full meeting of the Council; then they sent orders to the prison to have the apostles brought before them.
