Jeremiah 43:10

Good News Translation

Then tell them that I, the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, am going to bring my servant King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylonia to this place, and he will put his throne over these stones that you buried, and will spread the royal tent over them.

Benhadad received Ahab's answer as he and his allies, the other rulers, were drinking in their tents. He ordered his men to get ready to attack the city, and so they moved into position.

The attack began at noon, as Benhadad and his thirty-two allies were getting drunk in their tents.

He covered himself with darkness; thick clouds, full of water, surrounded him.

In times of trouble he will shelter me; he will keep me safe in his Temple and make me secure on a high rock.

You hide them in the safety of your presence from the plots of others; in a safe shelter you hide them from the insults of their enemies.

I say to Cyrus, ‘You are the one who will rule for me; you will do what I want you to do: you will order that Jerusalem be rebuilt and that the foundations of the Temple be laid.’”

The Lord has chosen Cyrus to be king. He has appointed him to conquer nations; he sends him to strip kings of their power; the Lord will open the gates of cities for him. To Cyrus the Lord says,

because I am calling all the nations in the north to come. Their kings will set up their thrones at the gates of Jerusalem and around its walls and also around the other cities of Judah.

“Get some large stones and bury them in the mortar of the pavement in front of the entrance to the government building here in the city, and let some of the Israelites see you do it.

When King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylonia came to attack Egypt, the Lord spoke to me. He said,

I will destroy their kings and leaders, and set up my throne there.

A third of your people will die from sickness and hunger in the city; a third will be cut down by swords outside the city; and I will scatter the last third to the winds and pursue them with a sword.

He controls the times and the seasons; he makes and unmakes kings; it is he who gives wisdom and understanding.

The king was very angry; so he sent his soldiers, who killed those murderers and burned down their city.
