They tell the prophets to keep quiet. They say, “Don't talk to us about what's right. Tell us what we want to hear. Let us keep our illusions.

This book is the account of what was said by Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests of the town of Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.

I hear everybody whispering, “Terror is everywhere! So let's report him to the authorities!” Even my close friends wait for my downfall. “Perhaps he can be tricked,” they say; “then we can catch him and get revenge.”

In these times sons treat their fathers like fools, daughters oppose their mothers, and young women quarrel with their mothers-in-law; your enemies are the members of your own family.

“People will hand over their own brothers to be put to death, and fathers will do the same to their children; children will turn against their parents and have them put to death.

The tenants grabbed his slaves, beat one, killed another, and stoned another.

while others grabbed the servants, beat them, and killed them.

I tell you this,” Jesus added, “prophets are never welcomed in their hometown.
