Isaiah 1:18

Good News Translation

The Lord says, “Now, let's settle the matter. You are stained red with sin, but I will wash you as clean as snow. Although your stains are deep red, you will be as white as wool.

But there is no one to step between us— no one to judge both God and me.

Remove my sin, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

Close your eyes to my sins and wipe out all my evil.

Your leaders are rebels and friends of thieves; they are always accepting gifts and bribes. They never defend orphans in court or listen when widows present their case.

The Lord is ready to state his case; he is ready to judge his people.

God says, “Be silent and listen to me, you distant lands! Get ready to present your case in court; you will have your chance to speak. Let us come together to decide who is right.

The Lord, the king of Israel, has this to say: “You gods of the nations, present your case. Bring the best arguments you have!

I have swept your sins away like a cloud. Come back to me; I am the one who saves you.”

for God is near, and he will prove me innocent. Does anyone dare bring charges against me? Let us go to court together! Let him bring his accusation!

Let the wicked leave their way of life and change their way of thinking. Let them turn to the Lord, our God; he is merciful and quick to forgive.

The Lord says: “What accusation did your ancestors bring against me? What made them turn away from me? They worshiped worthless idols and became worthless themselves.

When someone evil stops sinning and does what is right and good, he saves his life.

I will forgive the sins he has committed, and he will live because he has done what is right and good.

You mountains, you everlasting foundations of the earth, listen to the Lord's case! The Lord has a case against his people. He is going to bring an accusation against Israel.

According to his usual habit Paul went to the synagogue. There during three Sabbaths he held discussions with the people, quoting

But as Paul went on discussing about goodness, self-control, and the coming Day of Judgment, Felix was afraid and said, “You may leave now. I will call you again when I get the chance.”

Law was introduced in order to increase wrongdoing; but where sin increased, God's grace increased much more.

“I don't know, sir. You do,” I answered. He said to me, “These are the people who have come safely through the terrible persecution. They have washed their robes and made them white with the blood of the Lamb.

Now stand where you are, and I will accuse you before the Lord by reminding you of all the mighty actions the Lord did to save you and your ancestors.
