Even though I was the one who brought them up and made them strong, they plotted against me.

but the Lord was kind and merciful to them. He would not let them be destroyed, but helped them because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He has never forgotten his people.

The Lord sent Israel a leader, who freed them from the Syrians, and so the Israelites lived in peace, as before.

Happy is the person whom God corrects! Do not resent it when he rebukes you.

They are always plotting evil, always stirring up quarrels.

Why do the nations plan rebellion? Why do people make their useless plots?

My child, when the Lord corrects you, pay close attention and take it as a warning.

“Who can understand the human heart? There is nothing else so deceitful; it is too sick to be healed.

“I will destroy you, people of Israel! Then who can help you?

What are you plotting against the Lord? He will destroy you. No one opposes him more than once.

By means of the Holy Spirit you spoke through our ancestor David, your servant, when he said, ‘Why were the Gentiles furious; why did people make their useless plots?

They know God, but they do not give him the honor that belongs to him, nor do they thank him. Instead, their thoughts have become complete nonsense, and their empty minds are filled with darkness.

we pull down every proud obstacle that is raised against the knowledge of God; we take every thought captive and make it obey Christ.

Have you forgotten the encouraging words which God speaks to you as his children? “My child, pay attention when the Lord corrects you, and do not be discouraged when he rebukes you.

I rebuke and punish all whom I love. Be in earnest, then, and turn from your sins.
