The Lord says, “When Israel was a child, I loved him and called him out of Egypt as my son.

Israel, tell us how your enemies have persecuted you ever since you were young.

“You saw what I, the Lord, did to the Egyptians and how I carried you as an eagle carries her young on her wings, and brought you here to me.

Then you must tell him that I, the Lord, say, ‘Israel is my first-born son.

I told you to let my son go, so that he might worship me, but you refused. Now I am going to kill your first-born son.’”

to proclaim this message to everyone in Jerusalem. “I remember how faithful you were when you were young, how you loved me when we were first married; you followed me through the desert, through a land that had not been planted.

During your disgusting life as a prostitute you never once remembered your childhood—when you were naked, squirming in your own blood.”

“Then I passed by and saw you squirming in your own blood. You were covered with blood, but I wouldn't let you die.

That is what will happen to you, people of Bethel, because of the terrible evil that you have done. As soon as the battle begins, the king of Israel will die.”

The Lord sent a prophet to rescue the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt and to take care of them.

But I, the Lord your God who led you out of Egypt, I will make you live in tents again, as you did when I came to you in the desert.

The Lord says, “I am the Lord your God, who led you out of Egypt. You have no God but me. I alone am your savior.

I will give back to her the vineyards she had and make Trouble Valley a door of hope. She will respond to me there as she did when she was young, when she came from Egypt.

The Lord says to his people, “I have always loved you.” But they reply, “How have you shown your love for us?” The Lord answers, “Esau and Jacob were brothers, but I have loved Jacob and his descendants,

where he stayed until Herod died. This was done to make come true what the Lord had said through the prophet, “I called my Son out of Egypt.”

The Lord loves his people and protects those who belong to him. So we bow at his feet and obey his commands.

“The Lord did not love you and choose you because you outnumbered other peoples; you were the smallest nation on earth.
