Haggai 1:1

Good News Translation

During the second year that Darius was emperor of Persia, on the first day of the sixth month, the Lord spoke through the prophet Haggai. The message was for the governor of Judah, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and for the High Priest, Joshua son of Jehozadak.

Ezra 4:2

So they went to see Zerubbabel and the heads of the clans and said, “Let us join you in building the Temple. We worship the same God you worship, and we have been offering sacrifices to him ever since Emperor Esarhaddon of Assyria sent us here to live.”

Work on the Temple had been stopped and had remained at a standstill until the second year of the reign of Emperor Darius of Persia.

These men were leaders among all their fellow priests in the days of Joshua. The following were in charge of the singing of hymns of thanksgiving: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah.

Joshua was the father of Joiakim; Joiakim was the father of Eliashib; Eliashib was the father of Joiada;

Nehemiah 5:14

During all the twelve years that I was governor of the land of Judah, from the twentieth year that Artaxerxes was emperor until his thirty-second year, neither my relatives nor I ate the food I was entitled to have as governor.

Nehemiah 7:7

Their leaders were Zerubbabel, Joshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah.

When the people heard what the Law required, they were so moved that they began to cry. So Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra, the priest and scholar of the Law, and the Levites who were explaining the Law told all the people, “This day is holy to the Lord your God, so you are not to mourn or cry.

Haggai 1:12

Then Zerubbabel and Joshua and all the people who had returned from the exile in Babylonia, did what the Lord their God told them to do. They were afraid and obeyed the prophet Haggai, the Lord's messenger.

The Lord inspired everyone to work on the Temple: Zerubbabel, the governor of Judah; Joshua, the High Priest, and all the people who had returned from the exile. They began working on the Temple of the Lord Almighty, their God,

Haggai 1:15

on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month of the second year that Darius was emperor.

Haggai 1:2

The Lord Almighty said to Haggai, “These people say that this is not the right time to rebuild the Temple.”

The Lord then gave this message to the people through the prophet Haggai:

On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month of the second year that Darius was emperor, the Lord Almighty spoke again to the prophet Haggai.

On that same day, the twenty-fourth of the month, the Lord gave Haggai a second message

But now don't be discouraged, any of you. Do the work, for I am with you.
