Good News Translation

They answered, “You have saved our lives; you have been good to us, sir, and we will be the king's slaves.”

he said, “Sirs, please do not pass by my home without stopping; I am here to serve you.

When the messengers came back to Jacob, they said, “We went to your brother Esau, and he is already on his way to meet you. He has four hundred men with him.”

Esau said, “Then let me leave some of my men with you.” But Jacob answered, “There is no need for that for I only want to gain your favor.”

He gave Joseph the Egyptian name Zaphenath Paneah, and he gave him a wife, Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, a priest in the city of Heliopolis. Joseph was thirty years old when he began to serve the king of Egypt. He left the king's court and traveled all over the land.

At the time of harvest you must give one-fifth to the king. You can use the rest for seed and for food for yourselves and your families.”

So Joseph made it a law for the land of Egypt that one-fifth of the harvest should belong to the king. This law still remains in force today. Only the lands of the priests did not become the king's property.

You plotted evil against me, but God turned it into good, in order to preserve the lives of many people who are alive today because of what happened.

Take into the boat with you a male and a female of every kind of animal and of every kind of bird, in order to keep them alive.

Ruth answered, “You are very kind to me, sir. You have made me feel better by speaking gently to me, even though I am not the equal of one of your servants.”
