Good News Translation

Then Joseph settled his father and his brothers in Egypt, giving them property in the best of the land near the city of Rameses, as the king had commanded.

The Israelites lived in Egypt in the region of Goshen, where they became rich and had many children.

So the Egyptians put slave drivers over them to crush their spirits with hard labor. The Israelites built the cities of Pithom and Rameses to serve as supply centers for the king.

The Israelites set out on foot from Rameses for Sukkoth. There were about 600,000 men, not counting women and children.

“But all his relatives and dependents will become a burden to him. They will hang on him like pots and bowls hanging from a peg!

The people of Israel left Egypt on the fifteenth day of the first month of the year, the day after the first Passover. Under the Lord's protection they left the city of Rameses in full view of the Egyptians,

The thief comes only in order to steal, kill, and destroy. I have come in order that you might have life—life in all its fullness.

For you gave him authority over all people, so that he might give eternal life to all those you gave him.

“Father! You have given them to me, and I want them to be with me where I am, so that they may see my glory, the glory you gave me; for you loved me before the world was made.
