Genesis 43:21

Good News Translation

When we set up camp on the way home, we opened our sacks, and each man found his money in the top of his sack—every bit of it. We have brought it back to you.

Take with you also twice as much money, because you must take back the money that was returned in the top of your sacks. Maybe it was a mistake.

So the brothers took the gifts and twice as much money, and set out for Egypt with Benjamin. There they presented themselves to Joseph.

“If you please, sir, we came here once before to buy food.

We have also brought some more money with us to buy more food. We do not know who put our money back in our sacks.”

You know that we brought back to you from the land of Canaan the money we found in the top of our sacks. Why then should we steal silver or gold from your master's house?

If someone has done you wrong, do not repay him with a wrong. Try to do what everyone considers to be good.

Be under obligation to no one—the only obligation you have is to love one another. Whoever does this has obeyed the Law.

Keep on praying for us. We are sure we have a clear conscience, because we want to do the right thing at all times.

Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never leave you; I will never abandon you.”

Your conduct among the heathen should be so good that when they accuse you of being evildoers, they will have to recognize your good deeds and so praise God on the Day of his coming.

but do it with gentleness and respect. Keep your conscience clear, so that when you are insulted, those who speak evil of your good conduct as followers of Christ will become ashamed of what they say.
