Genesis 27:28

Good News Translation

May God give you dew from heaven and make your fields fertile! May he give you plenty of grain and wine!

Isaac answered, “I have already made him master over you, and I have made all his relatives his slaves. I have given him grain and wine. Now there is nothing that I can do for you, son!”

Then Isaac said to him, “No dew from heaven for you, No fertile fields for you.

Let them get their father and their families and come back here. I will give them the best land in Egypt, and they will have more than enough to live on.

“Asher's land will produce rich food. He will provide food fit for a king.

It is your father's God who helps you, The Almighty God who blesses you With blessings of rain from above And of deep waters from beneath the ground, Blessings of many cattle and children,

“May no rain or dew fall on Gilboa's hills; may its fields be always barren! For the shields of the brave lie there in disgrace; the shield of Saul is no longer polished with oil.

A prophet named Elijah, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to King Ahab, “In the name of the Lord, the living God of Israel, whom I serve, I tell you that there will be no dew or rain for the next two or three years until I say so.”

and Solomon provided Hiram with 100,000 bushels of wheat and 110,000 gallons of pure olive oil every year to feed his men.

As provisions for your lumbermen, I will send you 100,000 bushels of wheat, 100,000 bushels of barley, 110,000 gallons of wine, and 110,000 gallons of olive oil.”

and produce wine to make us happy, olive oil to make us cheerful, and bread to give us strength.

It is like the dew on Mount Hermon, falling on the hills of Zion. That is where the Lord has promised his blessing— life that never ends.

We feast on the abundant food you provide; you let us drink from the river of your goodness.

The king's anger is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like welcome rain.

His wisdom caused the rivers to flow and the clouds to give rain to the earth.

I will send victory from the sky like rain; the earth will open to receive it and will blossom with freedom and justice. I, the Lord, will make this happen.”

None of the idols of the nations can send rain; the sky by itself cannot make showers fall. We have put our hope in you, O Lord our God, because you are the one who does these things.

He answered them: “Now I am going to give you grain and wine and olive oil, and you will be satisfied. Other nations will no longer despise you.

The people of Israel who survive will be like refreshing dew sent by the Lord for many nations, like showers on growing plants. They will depend on God, not people.

They will plant their crops in peace. Their vines will bear grapes, the earth will produce crops, and there will be plenty of rain. I will give all these blessings to the people of my nation who survive.

How good and beautiful the land will be! The young people will grow strong on its grain and wine.

Find out whether the soil is fertile and whether the land is wooded. And be sure to bring back some of the fruit that grows there.” (It was the season when grapes were beginning to ripen.)

“I am giving you all the best of the first produce which the Israelites give me each year: olive oil, wine, and grain.

Some of the branches of the cultivated olive tree have been broken off, and a branch of a wild olive tree has been joined to it. You Gentiles are like that wild olive tree, and now you share the strong spiritual life of the Jews.

My teaching will fall like drops of rain and form on the earth like dew. My words will fall like showers on young plants, like gentle rain on tender grass.

About the tribe of Joseph he said: “May the Lord bless their land with rain And with water from under the earth.

So Jacob's descendants live in peace, secure in a land full of grain and wine, where dew from the sky waters the ground.

He will love you and bless you, so that you will increase in number and have many children; he will bless your fields, so that you will have grain, wine, and olive oil; and he will bless you by giving you many cattle and sheep. He will give you all these blessings in the land that he promised your ancestors he would give to you.

It was faith that made Isaac promise blessings for the future to Jacob and Esau.
