Genesis 23:20

Good News Translation

So the field which had belonged to the Hittites, and the cave in it, became the property of Abraham for a burial ground.

Canaan's sons—Sidon, the oldest, and Heth—were the ancestors of the peoples who bear their names.

Then Abraham buried his wife Sarah in that cave in the land of Canaan.

“I am a foreigner living here among you; sell me some land, so that I can bury my wife.”

It was the field that Abraham had bought from the Hittites; both Abraham and his wife Sarah were buried there.

His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in Machpelah Cave, in the field east of Mamre that had belonged to Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite.

Then Jacob commanded his sons, “Now that I am going to join my people in death, bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite,

they carried his body to Canaan and buried it in the cave at Machpelah east of Mamre in the field which Abraham had bought from Ephron the Hittite for a burial ground.

‘When my father was about to die, he made me promise him that I would bury him in the tomb which he had prepared in the land of Canaan. So please let me go and bury my father, and then I will come back.’”

But the king answered, “No, I will pay you for it. I will not offer to the Lord my God sacrifices that have cost me nothing.” And he bought the threshing place and the oxen for fifty pieces of silver.

Manasseh died and was buried in the palace garden, the garden of Uzza, and his son Amon succeeded him as king.
