Abraham named that place “The Lord Provides.” And even today people say, “On the Lord's mountain he provides.”

Abraham looked around and saw a ram caught in a bush by its horns. He went and got it and offered it as a burnt offering instead of his son.

The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time,

Abraham answered, “God himself will provide one.” And the two of them walked on together.

He named the place Bethel. (The town there was once known as Luz.)

Jacob said, “I have seen God face-to-face, and I am still alive”; so he named the place Peniel.

Then the Lord said to Elijah,

Moses built an altar and named it “The Lord is my Banner.”

The total length of the wall on all four sides of the city is 10,080 yards. The name of the city from now on will be “The-Lord-Is-Here!”

Twist and groan, people of Jerusalem, like a woman giving birth, for now you will have to leave the city and live in the open country. You will have to go to Babylon, but there the Lord will save you from your enemies.

No one can deny how great is the secret of our religion: He appeared in human form, was shown to be right by the Spirit, and was seen by angels. He was preached among the nations, was believed in throughout the world, and was taken up to heaven.

Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and named it “The Lord is Peace.” (It is still standing at Ophrah, which belongs to the clan of Abiezer.)

So then, David, tomorrow morning all of you who left Saul and came over to me will have to get up early and leave as soon as it's light.”

Then Samuel took a stone, set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and said, “The Lord has helped us all the way”—and he named it “Stone of Help.”
