Then he ran to the herd and picked out a calf that was tender and fat, and gave it to a servant, who hurried to get it ready.

Abraham hurried into the tent and said to Sarah, “Quick, take a sack of your best flour, and bake some bread.”

He took some cream, some milk, and the meat, and set the food before the men. There under the tree he served them himself, and they ate.

He kept on urging them, and finally they went with him to his house. Lot ordered his servants to bake some bread and prepare a fine meal for the guests. When it was ready, they ate it.

How terrible it will be for you that stretch out on your luxurious couches, feasting on veal and lamb!

A curse on the cheater who sacrifices a worthless animal to me, when he has in his flock a good animal that he promised to give me! For I am a great king, and people of all nations fear me.”

So he sent other servants with this message for the guests: ‘My feast is ready now; my steers and prize calves have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast!’

Then go and get the prize calf and kill it, and let us celebrate with a feast!

‘Your brother has come back home,’ the servant answered, ‘and your father has killed the prize calf, because he got him back safe and sound.’

But this son of yours wasted all your property on prostitutes, and when he comes back home, you kill the prize calf for him!’

The woman quickly killed a calf which she had been fattening. Then she took some flour, prepared it, and baked some bread without yeast.
