Genesis 15:5

Good News Translation

The Lord took him outside and said, “Look at the sky and try to count the stars; you will have as many descendants as that.”

I will give you many descendants, and they will become a great nation. I will bless you and make your name famous, so that you will be a blessing.

I am going to give you so many descendants that no one will be able to count them all; it would be as easy to count all the specks of dust on earth!

King David did not take a census of the people who were under the age of twenty, because of the Lord's promise to make the people of Israel as numerous as the stars in the sky.

You gave them as many children as there are stars in the sky, and let them conquer and live in the land that you had promised their ancestors to give them.

Look at the sky! See how high the clouds are!

He has decided the number of the stars and calls each one by name.

Abraham believed and hoped, even when there was no reason for hoping, and so became “the father of many nations.” Just as the scripture says, “Your descendants will be as many as the stars.”

The Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.

When your ancestors went to Egypt, there were only seventy of them. But now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.

Though Abraham was practically dead, from this one man came as many descendants as there are stars in the sky, as many as the numberless grains of sand on the seashore.

Then I took Abraham, your ancestor, from the land across the Euphrates and led him through the whole land of Canaan. I gave him many descendants. I gave him Isaac,
