Genesis 15:1

Good News Translation

After this, Abram had a vision and heard the Lord say to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I will shield you from danger and give you a great reward.”

But Abram answered, “Sovereign Lord, what good will your reward do me, since I have no children? My only heir is Eliezer of Damascus.

Then he heard the Lord speaking to him again: “This slave Eliezer will not inherit your property; your own son will be your heir.”

People will say, “The righteous are indeed rewarded; there is indeed a God who judges the world.”

The Lord is our protector and glorious king, blessing us with kindness and honor. He does not refuse any good thing to those who do what is right.

Bless our king, O God, the king you have chosen.

He will cover you with his wings; you will be safe in his care; his faithfulness will protect and defend you.

Moses answered, “Don't be afraid! Stand your ground, and you will see what the Lord will do to save you today; you will never see these Egyptians again.

Wicked people do not really gain anything, but if you do what is right, you are certain to be rewarded.

“God keeps every promise he makes. He is like a shield for all who seek his protection.

Tell everyone who is discouraged, “Be strong and don't be afraid! God is coming to your rescue, coming to punish your enemies.”

The Sovereign Lord is coming to rule with power, bringing with him the people he has rescued.

Do not be afraid—I am with you! I am your God—let nothing terrify you! I will make you strong and help you; I will protect you and save you.

The Lord says, “Small and weak as you are, Israel, don't be afraid; I will help you. I, the holy God of Israel, am the one who saves you.

The Lord says, “I am the one who strengthens you. Why should you fear mortals, who are no more enduring than grass?

But I, the Lord, will protect you, and you will not be handed over to the people you are afraid of.

The Lord is all I have, and so in him I put my hope.

On the fifth day of the fourth month of the thirtieth year, I, Ezekiel the priest, son of Buzi, was living with the Jewish exiles by the Chebar River in Babylonia. The sky opened, and I saw a vision of God. (

In the vision the spirit of God lifted me up and brought me back to the exiles in Babylonia. Then the vision faded,

Then God said, “Mortal man, go to the people of Israel and say to them whatever I tell you to say.

and the Lord said, “Now hear what I have to say! When there are prophets among you, I reveal myself to them in visions and speak to them in dreams.

The Lord said to Aaron, “You will not receive any property that can be inherited, and no part of the land of Israel will be assigned to you. I, the Lord, am all you need.”

Who can hear what God is saying. With staring eyes I see in a trance A vision from Almighty God.

The angel spoke to the women. “You must not be afraid,” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.

“Why are you so frightened?” Jesus answered. “What little faith you have!” Then he got up and ordered the winds and the waves to stop, and there was a great calm.

But the angel said to him, “Don't be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son. You are to name him John.

The angel said to her, “Don't be afraid, Mary; God has been gracious to you.

“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the Kingdom.

“Captain Cornelius sent us,” they answered. “He is a good man who worships God and is highly respected by all the Jewish people. An angel of God told him to invite you to his house, so that he could hear what you have to say.”

Paul, Apollos, and Peter; this world, life and death, the present and the future—all these are yours,

They are to own no land, as the other tribes do; their share is the privilege of being the Lord's priests, as the Lord has promised.

Be determined and confident. Do not be afraid of them. Your God, the Lord himself, will be with you. He will not fail you or abandon you.”

In the past God spoke to our ancestors many times and in many ways through the prophets,

When I saw him, I fell down at his feet like a dead man. He placed his right hand on me and said, “Don't be afraid! I am the first and the last.

May the Lord reward you for what you have done. May you have a full reward from the Lord God of Israel, to whom you have come for protection!”

Saul replied, “A good idea! Let's go.” So they went to the town where the holy man lived. As they were going up the hill to the town, they met some young women who were coming out to draw water. They asked these women, “Is the seer in town?” (At that time a prophet was called a seer, and so whenever someone wanted to ask God a question, he would say, “Let's go to the seer.”)
