Good News Translation

and so I have come down to rescue them from the Egyptians and to bring them out of Egypt to a spacious land, one which is rich and fertile and in which the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites now live.

Then the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which they had built,

Let us go down and mix up their language so that they will not understand each other.”

The Lord said to him, “Your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land; they will be slaves there and will be treated cruelly for four hundred years.

But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, and when they leave that foreign land, they will take great wealth with them.

I must go down to find out whether or not the accusations which I have heard are true.”

Their father said to them, “If that is how it has to be, then take the best products of the land in your packs as a present for the governor: a little resin, a little honey, spices, pistachio nuts, and almonds.

I will go with you to Egypt, and I will bring your descendants back to this land. Joseph will be with you when you die.”

He said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will certainly take care of you and lead you out of this land to the land he solemnly promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

You found that he was faithful to you, and you made a covenant with him. You promised to give him the land of the Canaanites, the land of the Hittites and the Amorites, the land of the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Girgashites, to be a land where his descendants would live. You kept your promise, because you are faithful.

“But now I will come,” says the Lord, “because the needy are oppressed and the persecuted groan in pain. I will give them the security they long for.”

The promises of the Lord can be trusted; they are as genuine as silver refined seven times in the furnace.

Find out for yourself how good the Lord is. Happy are those who find safety with him.

When they call to me, I will answer them; when they are in trouble, I will be with them. I will rescue them and honor them.

On the day the 430 years ended, all the tribes of the Lord's people left Egypt.

On that day the Lord brought the Israelite tribes out of Egypt.

The Lord solemnly promised your ancestors to give you the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. When he brings you into that rich and fertile land, you must celebrate this festival in the first month of every year.

I have decided that I will bring them out of Egypt, where they are being treated cruelly, and will take them to a rich and fertile land—the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

Obey the laws that I am giving you today. I will drive out the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, as you advance.

Ever since I went to the king to speak for you, he has treated them cruelly. And you have done nothing to help them!”

until the emperor resettles you in a country much like your own, where there are vineyards to give wine and there is grain for making bread.

Why don't you tear the sky open and come down? The mountains would see you and shake with fear.

Then I would keep the promise I made to their ancestors that I would give them the rich and fertile land which they now have.” I said, “Yes, Lord.”

I brought them into a fertile land, to enjoy its harvests and its other good things. But instead they ruined my land; they defiled the country I had given them.

You gave them this rich and fertile land, as you had promised their ancestors.

It was then that I promised to take them out of Egypt and lead them to a land I had chosen for them, a rich and fertile land, the finest land of all.

But I have promised you this rich and fertile land as your possession, and I will give it to you. I am the Lord your God, and I have set you apart from the other nations.

I brought you out of Egypt, led you through the desert for forty years, and gave you the land of the Amorites to be your own.

Find out what kind of country it is, how many people live there, and how strong they are.

Find out whether the land is good or bad and whether the people live in open towns or in fortified cities.

They told Moses, “We explored the land and found it to be rich and fertile; and here is some of its fruit.

And no one has ever gone up to heaven except the Son of Man, who came down from heaven.”

because I have come down from heaven to do not my own will but the will of him who sent me.

They brought us back some fruit they found there, and reported that the land which the Lord our God was giving us was very fertile.

Break camp and move on. Go to the hill country of the Amorites and to all the surrounding regions—to the Jordan Valley, to the hill country and the lowlands, to the southern region, and to the Mediterranean coast. Go to the land of Canaan and on beyond the Lebanon Mountains as far as the great Euphrates River.

and write on them all these laws and teachings. When you have entered the rich and fertile land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you,

The Lord will give you many children, many cattle, and abundant crops in the land that he promised your ancestors to give you.

Listen to them, people of Israel, and obey them! Then all will go well with you, and you will become a mighty nation and live in that rich and fertile land, just as the Lord, the God of our ancestors, has promised.

“The Lord your God will bring you into the land that you are going to occupy, and he will drive many nations out of it. As you advance, he will drive out seven nations larger and more powerful than you: the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

The victories of Israel became known to all the kings west of the Jordan—in the hills, in the foothills, and all along the coastal plain of the Mediterranean Sea as far north as Lebanon; these were the kings of the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

But the Israelites said, “Why should we make a treaty with you? Maybe you live nearby.”
