Good News Translation

Think before you speak, and don't make any rash promises to God. He is in heaven and you are on earth, so don't say any more than you have to.

Think carefully before you promise an offering to God. You might regret it later.

What the wise say brings them honor, but fools are destroyed by their own words.

They start out with silly talk and end up with pure madness.

The more you worry, the more likely you are to have bad dreams, and the more you talk, the more likely you are to say something foolish.

No matter how much you dream, how much useless work you do, or how much you talk, you must still stand in awe of God.

As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways and thoughts above yours.

If you make a careless vow, no matter what it is about, you are guilty as soon as you realize what you have done.

“When you pray, do not use a lot of meaningless words, as the pagans do, who think that their gods will hear them because their prayers are long.
