Ecclesiastes 12:7

Good News Translation

Our bodies will return to the dust of the earth, and the breath of life will go back to God, who gave it to us.

Abraham spoke again: “Please forgive my boldness in continuing to speak to you, Lord. I am only a man and have no right to say anything.

Then the Lord God took some soil from the ground and formed a man out of it; he breathed life-giving breath into his nostrils and the man began to live.

You will have to work hard and sweat to make the soil produce anything, until you go back to the soil from which you were formed. You were made from soil, and you will become soil again.”

Their bodies used to be young and vigorous, but soon they will turn to dust.

Can't you ever forgive my sin? Can't you pardon the wrong I do? Soon I will be in my grave, and I'll be gone when you look for me.

He knows what we are made of; he remembers that we are dust.

When you turn away, they are afraid; when you take away your breath, they die and go back to the dust from which they came.

When they die, they return to the dust; on that day all their plans come to an end.

You hate those who worship false gods, but I trust in you.

You tell us to return to what we were; you change us back to dust.

I gave my people life, and I will not continue to accuse them or be angry with them forever.

So King Zedekiah promised me in secret, “I swear by the living God, the God who gave us life, that I will not put you to death or hand you over to the men who want to kill you.”

Many of those who have already died will live again: some will enjoy eternal life, and some will suffer eternal disgrace.

This is a message about Israel from the Lord, the Lord who spread out the skies, created the earth, and gave life to man. He says,

But Moses and Aaron bowed down with their faces to the ground and said, “O God, you are the source of all life. When one of us sins, do you become angry with the whole community?”

“Lord God, source of all life, appoint, I pray, a man who can lead the people

Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Father! In your hands I place my spirit!” He said this and died.

They kept on stoning Stephen as he called out to the Lord, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”

You have come to the joyful gathering of God's first-born, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, who is the judge of all people, and to the spirits of good people made perfect.

In the case of our human fathers, they punished us and we respected them. How much more, then, should we submit to our spiritual Father and live!
