Be on your guard! Make certain that you do not forget, as long as you live, what you have seen with your own eyes. Tell your children and your grandchildren

“Here are the laws that you are to obey as long as you live in the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, is giving you. Listen to them!

When you eat this meal, do not eat bread prepared with yeast. For seven days you are to eat bread prepared without yeast, as you did when you had to leave Egypt in such a hurry. Eat this bread—it will be called the bread of suffering—so that as long as you live you will remember the day you came out of Egypt, that place of suffering.

“Make certain that you do not forget the Lord your God; do not fail to obey any of his laws that I am giving you today.

That is why we must hold on all the more firmly to the truths we have heard, so that we will not be carried away.

Whoever questions your authority or disobeys any of your orders will be put to death. Be determined and confident!”

The people of Israel forgot the Lord their God; they sinned against him and worshiped the idols of Baal and Asherah.
