“If you see an Israelite's cow or sheep running loose, do not ignore it; take it back.

Don't hesitate to rescue someone who is about to be executed unjustly.

Do not forget your friends or your father's friends. If you are in trouble, don't ask a relative for help; a nearby neighbor can help you more than relatives who are far away.

Give to the poor and you will never be in need. If you close your eyes to the poor, many people will curse you.

Share your food with the hungry and open your homes to the homeless poor. Give clothes to those who have nothing to wear, and do not refuse to help your own relatives.

The Lord has hidden himself from his people, but I trust him and place my hope in him.

“I will look for those that are lost, bring back those that wander off, bandage those that are hurt, and heal those that are sick; but those that are fat and strong I will destroy, because I am a shepherd who does what is right.

You have not taken care of the weak ones, healed the ones that are sick, bandaged the ones that are hurt, brought back the ones that wandered off, or looked for the ones that were lost. Instead, you treated them cruelly.

But if the community ignores what you have done and does not put you to death,

or by lying about something that has been lost and swearing that you did not find it.

“Long ago I gave these commands to my people: ‘You must see that justice is done, and must show kindness and mercy to one another.

Instead, you are to go to the lost sheep of the people of Israel.

Then Jesus replied, “I have been sent only to the lost sheep of the people of Israel.”

We read in the Law of Moses, “Do not muzzle an ox when you are using it to thresh grain.” Now, is God concerned about oxen?

But if its owner lives a long way off or if you don't know who owns it, then take it home with you. When its owner comes looking for it, give it to him.

You were like sheep that had lost their way, but now you have been brought back to follow the Shepherd and Keeper of your souls.
