Good News Translation

You will be driven away from human society, live with wild animals, and eat grass like an ox for seven years. Then you will acknowledge that the Supreme God has power over human kingdoms and that he can give them to anyone he chooses.”

God accepted Manasseh's prayer and answered it by letting him go back to Jerusalem and rule again. This convinced Manasseh that the Lord was God.

I know, Lord, that you are all-powerful; that you can do everything you want.

He takes what he wants, and no one can stop him; no one dares ask him, “What are you doing?”

Our God is in heaven; he does whatever he wishes.

He does whatever he wishes in heaven and on earth, in the seas and in the depths below.

The king answered, “Pray for me tomorrow.” Moses said, “I will do as you ask, and then you will know that there is no other god like the Lord, our God.

This time I will punish not only your officials and your people, but I will punish you as well, so that you may know that there is no one like me in all the world.

Moses said to him, “As soon as I go out of the city, I will lift up my hands in prayer to the Lord. The thunder will stop, and there will be no more hail, so that you may know that the earth belongs to the Lord.

Now, Lord our God, rescue us from the Assyrians, so that all the nations of the world will know that you alone are God.”

To the Lord the nations are nothing, no more than a drop of water; the distant islands are as light as dust.

The nations are nothing at all to him.

I will give you treasures from dark, secret places; then you will know that I am the Lord and that the God of Israel has called you by name.

“By my great power and strength I created the world, human beings, and all the animals that live on the earth; and I give it to anyone I choose.

He controls the times and the seasons; he makes and unmakes kings; it is he who gives wisdom and understanding.

Before the words were out of his mouth, a voice spoke from heaven, “King Nebuchadnezzar, listen to what I say! Your royal power is now taken away from you.

He was driven away from human society, and his mind became like that of an animal. He lived with wild donkeys, ate grass like an ox, and slept in the open air with nothing to protect him from the dew. Finally he admitted that the Supreme God controls all human kingdoms and can give them to anyone he chooses.

Because of this everyone on earth will know how great the Lord's power is, and you will honor the Lord your God forever.”
