The king also gave orders that every day they were to be given the same food and wine as the members of the royal court. After three years of this training they were to appear before the king.

Give us today the food we need.

“I am Gabriel,” the angel answered. “I stand in the presence of God, who sent me to speak to you and tell you this good news.

Give us day by day the food we need.

Be on watch and pray always that you will have the strength to go safely through all those things that will happen and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Then Saul sent a message to Jesse: “I like David. Let him stay here in my service.”
