Acts 9:27

Good News Translation

Then Barnabas came to his help and took him to the apostles. He explained to them how Saul had seen the Lord on the road and that the Lord had spoken to him. He also told them how boldly Saul had preached in the name of Jesus in Damascus.

The news about this reached the church in Jerusalem, so they sent Barnabas to Antioch.

Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul.

Barnabas and Saul finished their mission and returned from Jerusalem, taking John Mark with them.

While they were serving the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said to them, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul, to do the work to which I have called them.”

Paul and Barnabas got into a fierce argument with them about this, so it was decided that Paul and Barnabas and some of the others in Antioch should go to Jerusalem and see the apostles and elders about this matter.

The members of the Council were amazed to see how bold Peter and John were and to learn that they were ordinary men of no education. They realized then that they had been companions of Jesus.

And now, Lord, take notice of the threats they have made, and allow us, your servants, to speak your message with all boldness.

And so it was that Joseph, a Levite born in Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means “One who Encourages”),

So Ananias went, entered the house where Saul was, and placed his hands on him. “Brother Saul,” he said, “the Lord has sent me—Jesus himself, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here. He sent me so that you might see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

He also talked and disputed with the Greek-speaking Jews, but they tried to kill him.

Last of all he appeared also to me—even though I am like someone whose birth was abnormal.

Or are Barnabas and I the only ones who have to work for our living?

The other Jewish believers also started acting like cowards along with Peter; and even Barnabas was swept along by their cowardly action.

James, Peter, and John, who seemed to be the leaders, recognized that God had given me this special task; so they shook hands with Barnabas and me, as a sign that we were all partners. We agreed that Barnabas and I would work among the Gentiles and they among the Jews.
