Acts 23:9

Good News Translation

The shouting became louder, and some of the teachers of the Law who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and protested strongly: “We cannot find a thing wrong with this man! Perhaps a spirit or an angel really did speak to him!”

When you please the Lord, you can make your enemies into friends.

Then the leaders and the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man spoke to us in the name of the Lord our God; he should not be put to death.”

Some teachers of the Law, who were Pharisees, saw that Jesus was eating with these outcasts and tax collectors, so they asked his disciples, “Why does he eat with such people?”

Pilate said to them the third time, “But what crime has he committed? I cannot find anything he has done to deserve death! I will have him whipped and set him free.”

Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no reason to condemn this man.”

Some Pharisees and some teachers of the Law who belonged to their group complained to Jesus' disciples. “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and other outcasts?” they asked.

The crowd standing there heard the voice, and some of them said it was thunder, while others said, “An angel spoke to him!”

It is clear that God gave those Gentiles the same gift that he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ; who was I, then, to try to stop God!”

“As I was traveling and coming near Damascus, about midday a bright light from the sky flashed suddenly around me.

I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul! Why do you persecute me?’

I found out that he had not done a thing for which he deserved to die or be put in prison; the accusation against him had to do with questions about their own law.

For the Sadducees say that people will not rise from death and that there are no angels or spirits; but the Pharisees believe in all three.)

But I could not find that he had done anything for which he deserved the death sentence. And since he himself made an appeal to the Emperor, I have decided to send him.

and after leaving they said to each other, “This man has not done anything for which he should die or be put in prison.”

For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I worship came to me

but if it comes from God, you cannot possibly defeat them. You could find yourselves fighting against God!” The Council followed Gamaliel's advice.

He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul! Why do you persecute me?”

Or do we want to make the Lord jealous? Do we think that we are stronger than he?

Samuel replied, “The Lord and the king he has chosen are witnesses today that you have found me to be completely innocent.” “Yes, the Lord is our witness,” they answered.

Then he said to David, “You are right, and I am wrong. You have been so good to me, while I have done such wrong to you!
