I did not tell anyone what God had inspired me to do for Jerusalem. Then in the middle of the night I got up and went out, taking a few of my companions with me. The only animal we took was the donkey that I rode on.

This decree was to take effect throughout the Persian Empire on the day set for the slaughter of the Jews, the thirteenth of Adar, the twelfth month.

They put him in chains, led him off, and handed him over to Pilate, the Roman governor.

He went over to him, poured oil and wine on his wounds and bandaged them; then he put the man on his own animal and took him to an inn, where he took care of him.

It was the fifteenth year of the rule of Emperor Tiberius; Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod was ruler of Galilee, and his brother Philip was ruler of the territory of Iturea and Trachonitis; Lysanias was ruler of Abilene,

Then the commander wrote a letter that went like this:

“Claudius Lysias to His Excellency, Governor Felix: Greetings.

They took him to Caesarea, delivered the letter to the governor, and turned Paul over to him.

Five days later the High Priest Ananias went to Caesarea with some elders and a lawyer named Tertullus. They appeared before Governor Felix and made their charges against Paul.

The governor then motioned to Paul to speak, and Paul said, “I know that you have been a judge over this nation for many years, and so I am happy to defend myself before you.

We welcome this everywhere and at all times, and we are deeply grateful to you.

After they had been there several days, Festus explained Paul's situation to the king: “There is a man here who was left a prisoner by Felix;
