Then he led them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

Can anyone be righteous or pure in God's sight?

Have you asked God to show you your faults, and have you agreed to stop doing evil?

“The kind of fasting I want is this: Remove the chains of oppression and the yoke of injustice, and let the oppressed go free.

When you pray, I will answer you. When you call to me, I will respond. “If you put an end to oppression, to every gesture of contempt, and to every evil word;

Do those things that will show that you have turned from your sins.

“Happy are those who are merciful to others; God will be merciful to them!

The people asked him, “What are we to do, then?”

“Why are you doing this? We ourselves are only human beings like you! We are here to announce the Good News, to turn you away from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven, earth, sea, and all that is in them.

She followed Paul and us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God! They announce to you how you can be saved!”

Upon receiving this order, the jailer threw them into the inner cell and fastened their feet between heavy blocks of wood.

When the people heard this, they were deeply troubled and said to Peter and the other apostles, “What shall we do, brothers?”

I asked, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ and the Lord said to me, ‘Get up and go into Damascus, and there you will be told everything that God has determined for you to do.’

“But get up and go into the city, where you will be told what you must do.”

For God will not show mercy when he judges the person who has not been merciful; but mercy triumphs over judgment.
