But they don't turn to God, their Creator, who gives them hope in their darkest hours.

In the night I remember you, Lord, and I think about your law.

In the middle of the night I wake up to praise you for your righteous judgments.

During the day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer; I call at night, but get no rest.

I will always thank the Lord; I will never stop praising him.

May the Lord show his constant love during the day, so that I may have a song at night, a prayer to the God of my life.

Call to me when trouble comes; I will save you, and you will praise me.”

My life has been an example to many, because you have been my strong defender.

In times of trouble I pray to the Lord; all night long I lift my hands in prayer, but I cannot find comfort.

I spend the night in deep thought; I meditate, and this is what I ask myself:

When they call to me, I will answer them; when they are in trouble, I will be with them. I will rescue them and honor them.

But you, God's people, will be happy and sing as you do on the night of a sacred festival. You will be as happy as those who walk to the music of flutes on their way to the Temple of the Lord, the defender of Israel.

Listen then, Joshua, you who are the High Priest; and listen, you fellow priests of his, you that are the sign of a good future: I will reveal my servant, who is called The Branch!

In great anguish he prayed even more fervently; his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Then the apostles and the elders, together with the whole church, decided to choose some men from the group and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose two men who were highly respected by the believers, Judas, called Barsabbas, and Silas,

When her owners realized that their chance of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them to the authorities in the public square.

At that very hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; and he and all his family were baptized at once.

As the apostles left the Council, they were happy, because God had considered them worthy to suffer disgrace for the sake of Jesus.

Let your hope keep you joyful, be patient in your troubles, and pray at all times.

We also boast of our troubles, because we know that trouble produces endurance,

although saddened, we are always glad; we seem poor, but we make many people rich; we seem to have nothing, yet we really possess everything.

Speak to one another with the words of psalms, hymns, and sacred songs; sing hymns and psalms to the Lord with praise in your hearts.

Perhaps my life's blood is to be poured out like an offering on the sacrifice that your faith offers to God. If that is so, I am glad and share my joy with you all.

And now I am happy about my sufferings for you, for by means of my physical sufferings I am helping to complete what still remains of Christ's sufferings on behalf of his body, the church.

In his life on earth Jesus made his prayers and requests with loud cries and tears to God, who could save him from death. Because he was humble and devoted, God heard him.

My friends, consider yourselves fortunate when all kinds of trials come your way,

Are any among you in trouble? They should pray. Are any among you happy? They should sing praises.

Happy are you if you are insulted because you are Christ's followers; this means that the glorious Spirit, the Spirit of God, is resting on you.
