Good News Translation

When I come, then, I will bring up everything he has done: the terrible things he says about us and the lies he tells! But that is not enough for him; he will not receive the Christians when they come, and even stops those who want to receive them and tries to drive them out of the church!

Someone who holds back the truth causes trouble, but one who openly criticizes works for peace.

Sensible people accept good advice. People who talk foolishly will come to ruin.

Listen to what the Lord says, you that fear him and obey him: “Because you are faithful to me, some of your own people hate you and will have nothing to do with you. They mock you and say, ‘Let the Lord show his greatness and save you, so that we may see you rejoice.’ But they themselves will be disgraced!

“Happy are you when people hate you, reject you, insult you, and say that you are evil, all because of the Son of Man!

His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish authorities, who had already agreed that anyone who said he believed that Jesus was the Messiah would be expelled from the synagogue.

A few days later there was a meeting of the believers, about a hundred and twenty in all, and Peter stood up to speak.

I want to tell those of you who have sinned in the past, and all the others; I said it before during my second visit to you, but I will say it again now that I am away: the next time I come nobody will escape punishment.

So then, as often as we have the chance, we should do good to everyone, and especially to those who belong to our family in the faith.

They also learn to waste their time in going around from house to house; but even worse, they learn to be gossips and busybodies, talking of things they should not.

So then, if some come to you who do not bring this teaching, do not welcome them in your homes; do not even say, “Peace be with you.”

I have so much to tell you, but I would rather not do it with paper and ink; instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you personally, so that we shall be completely happy.

I was so happy when some Christians arrived and told me how faithful you are to the truth—just as you always live in the truth.

My dear friend, you are so faithful in the work you do for other Christians, even when they are strangers.
