The spirit of the Lord speaks through me; his message is on my lips.

In your goodness you told them what they should do; you fed them manna and gave them water to drink.

I keep your law in my heart, so that I will not sin against you.

The explanation of your teachings gives light and brings wisdom to the ignorant.

How can young people keep their lives pure? By obeying your commands.

If you do what is wrong, you will be severely punished; you will die if you do not let yourself be corrected.

If you pay attention when you are corrected, you are wise.

Their instructions are a shining light; their correction can teach you how to live.

Do you think the people of Israel are under a curse? Has the Lord lost his patience? Would he really do such things? Doesn't he speak kindly to those who do right?”

It has not listened to the Lord or accepted his discipline. It has not put its trust in the Lord or asked for his help.

So he replied, “This means, then, that every teacher of the Law who becomes a disciple in the Kingdom of heaven is like a homeowner who takes new and old things out of his storage room.”

Jesus said to them, “Haven't you ever read what the Scriptures say? ‘The stone which the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most important of all. This was done by the Lord; what a wonderful sight it is!’

“Why, then,” Jesus asked, “did the Spirit inspire David to call him ‘Lord’? David said,

But in that case, how could the Scriptures come true which say that this is what must happen?”

But all this has happened in order to make come true what the prophets wrote in the Scriptures.” Then all the disciples left him and ran away.

Jesus answered them, “How wrong you are! And do you know why? It is because you don't know the Scriptures or God's power.

The Holy Spirit inspired David to say: ‘The Lord said to my Lord: Sit here at my right side until I put your enemies under your feet.’

We know that what the scripture says is true forever; and God called those people gods, the people to whom his message was given.

Those who do evil things hate the light and will not come to the light, because they do not want their evil deeds to be shown up.

“My friends,” he said, “the scripture had to come true in which the Holy Spirit, speaking through David, made a prediction about Judas, who was the guide for those who arrested Jesus.

He had been instructed in the Way of the Lord, and with great enthusiasm he proclaimed and taught correctly the facts about Jesus. However, he knew only the baptism of John.

You know that I did not hold back anything that would be of help to you as I preached and taught in public and in your homes.

For I have not held back from announcing to you the whole purpose of God.

Everything written in the Scriptures was written to teach us, in order that we might have hope through the patience and encouragement which the Scriptures give us.

The scripture predicted that God would put the Gentiles right with himself through faith. And so the scripture announced the Good News to Abraham: “Through you God will bless all people.”

“There are some things that the Lord our God has kept secret; but he has revealed his Law, and we and our descendants are to obey it forever.

He let you hear his voice from heaven so that he could instruct you; and here on earth he let you see his holy fire, and he spoke to you from it.

who is gentle as you correct your opponents, for it may be that God will give them the opportunity to repent and come to know the truth.

to preach the message, to insist upon proclaiming it (whether the time is right or not), to convince, reproach, and encourage, as you teach with all patience.

To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see.

So then, as the Holy Spirit says, “If you hear God's voice today,

The word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It cuts all the way through, to where soul and spirit meet, to where joints and marrow come together. It judges the desires and thoughts of the heart.
