When you die and are buried with your ancestors, I will make one of your sons king and will keep his kingdom strong.

Then he heard the Lord speaking to him again: “This slave Eliezer will not inherit your property; your own son will be your heir.”

God gives great victories to his king; he shows constant love to the one he has chosen, to David and his descendants forever.

If you don't, as soon as you are dead, my son Solomon and I will be treated as traitors.”

and prayed, ‘Let us praise the Lord, the God of Israel, who has today made one of my descendants succeed me as king, and has let me live to see it!’”

When David was about to die, he called his son Solomon and gave him his last instructions:

David died and was buried in David's City.

If you obey him, the Lord will keep the promise he made when he told me that my descendants would rule Israel as long as they were careful to obey his commands faithfully with all their heart and soul.

The Lord promised my father David, ‘Your son, whom I will make king after you, will build a temple for me.’ And I have now decided to build that temple for the worship of the Lord my God.

He said, “Praise the Lord God of Israel! He has kept the promise he made to my father David, when he told him,

but you will never build it. It is your son, your own son, who will build my temple.’

“And now the Lord has kept his promise. I have succeeded my father as king of Israel, and I have built the Temple for the worship of the Lord God of Israel.

I will keep the promise I made to your father David when I told him that Israel would always be ruled by his descendants.

but the Lord was not willing to destroy Judah, because he had promised his servant David that his descendants would always continue to rule.

O Lord God, fulfill the promise you made to my father. You have made me king over a people who are so many that they cannot be counted,

“Don't you know that the Lord, the God of Israel, made an unbreakable covenant with David, giving him and his descendants kingship over Israel forever?

but the Lord was not willing to destroy the dynasty of David, because he had made a covenant with David and promised that his descendants would always continue to rule.

They all gathered in the Temple, and there they made a covenant with Joash, the king's son. Jehoiada said to them, “Here is the son of the late king. He is now to be king, as the Lord promised that King David's descendants would be.

You have kept the promise you made to my father David; today every word has been fulfilled.

but you will never build it. It is your son, your own son, who will build my temple.’

His dynasty will be as permanent as the sky; a descendant of his will always be king.

A day is coming when the new king from the royal line of David will be a symbol to the nations. They will gather in his royal city and give him honor.

His royal power will continue to grow; his kingdom will always be at peace. He will rule as King David's successor, basing his power on right and justice, from now until the end of time. The Lord Almighty is determined to do all this.

I, the Lord, promise that there will always be a descendant of David to be king of Israel

Many of those who have already died will live again: some will enjoy eternal life, and some will suffer eternal disgrace.

This is the list of the ancestors of Jesus Christ, a descendant of David, who was a descendant of Abraham.

He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High God. The Lord God will make him a king, as his ancestor David was,

And Jesus explained to them what was said about himself in all the Scriptures, beginning with the books of Moses and the writings of all the prophets.

For David served God's purposes in his own time, and then he died, was buried with his ancestors, and his body rotted in the grave.

He was a prophet, and he knew what God had promised him: God had made a vow that he would make one of David's descendants a king, just as David was.

Listen to this secret truth: we shall not all die, but when the last trumpet sounds, we shall all be changed in an instant, as quickly as the blinking of an eye. For when the trumpet sounds, the dead will be raised, never to die again, and we shall all be changed.

The Lord said to Moses, “You will soon die, and after your death the people will become unfaithful to me and break the covenant that I made with them. They will abandon me and worship the pagan gods of the land they are about to enter.

We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will take back with Jesus those who have died believing in him.
