“I swear by the living God,” Joab answered, “that if you had not spoken, my men would have kept on chasing you until tomorrow morning.”

Abner said to Joab, “Let's have some of the young men from each side fight an armed contest.” “All right,” Joab answered.

Abner called out to Joab, “Do we have to go on fighting forever? Can't you see that in the end there will be nothing but bitterness? We are your relatives. How long will it be before you order your men to stop chasing us?”

Then Joab blew the trumpet as a signal for his men to stop pursuing the Israelites; and so the fighting stopped.

A gentle answer quiets anger, but a harsh one stirs it up.

The start of an argument is like the first break in a dam; stop it before it goes any further.

Get good advice and you will succeed; don't go charging into battle without a plan.

Don't be too quick to go to court about something you have seen. If another witness later proves you wrong, what will you do then?

You thought you would always be a queen, and did not take these things to heart or think how it all would end.

It is the Lord who has kept you from taking revenge and killing your enemies. And now I swear to you by the living Lord that your enemies and all who want to harm you will be punished like Nabal.
