Good News Translation

The people cried loudly as David's followers left. The king crossed Kidron Brook, followed by his men, and together they went out toward the wilderness.

“Fine!” David answered. “March on!” So Ittai went on with all his men and their dependents.

Meanwhile, I will wait at the river crossings in the wilderness until I receive news from you.”

King David asked him, “What are you going to do with all that?” Ziba answered, “The donkeys are for Your Majesty's family to ride, the bread and the fruit are for the men to eat, and the wine is for them to drink when they get tired in the wilderness.”

He removed his grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother, because she had made an obscene idol of the fertility goddess Asherah. Asa cut down the idol and burned it in Kidron Valley.

If you ever leave and go beyond Kidron Brook, you will certainly die—and you yourself will be to blame.”

The priests went inside the Temple to purify it, and they carried out into the Temple courtyard everything that was ritually unclean. From there the Levites took it all outside the city to Kidron Valley.

The entire valley, where the dead are buried and garbage is dumped, and all the fields above Kidron Brook as far as the Horse Gate to the east, will be sacred to me. The city will never again be torn down or destroyed.”

At that time John the Baptist came to the desert of Judea and started preaching.

John was the man the prophet Isaiah was talking about when he said, “Someone is shouting in the desert, ‘Prepare a road for the Lord; make a straight path for him to travel!’”

The child grew and developed in body and spirit. He lived in the desert until the day when he appeared publicly to the people of Israel.

After Jesus had said this prayer, he left with his disciples and went across Kidron Brook. There was a garden in that place, and Jesus and his disciples went in.

Be happy with those who are happy, weep with those who weep.
