Why, then, have you disobeyed my commands? Why did you do this evil thing? You had Uriah killed in battle; you let the Ammonites kill him, and then you took his wife!

I have sinned against you—only against you— and done what you consider evil. So you are right in judging me; you are justified in condemning me.

You place our sins before you, our secret sins where you can see them.

Be honest and you show that you have reverence for the Lord; be dishonest and you show that you do not.

So now, just as straw and dry grass shrivel and burn in the fire, your roots will rot and your blossoms will dry up and blow away, because you have rejected what the Lord Almighty, Israel's holy God, has taught us.

but then that nation disobeys me and does evil, I will not do what I said I would.

The Lord says, “The people of Judah have sinned again and again, and for this I will certainly punish them. They have despised my teachings and have not kept my commands. They have been led astray by the same false gods that their ancestors served.

Why, then, did you not obey him? Why did you rush to grab the loot, and so do what displeases the Lord?”

Rebellion against him is as bad as witchcraft, and arrogance is as sinful as idolatry. Because you rejected the Lord's command, he has rejected you as king.”

“I will not go back with you,” Samuel answered. “You rejected the Lord's command, and he has rejected you as king of Israel.”
