Good News Translation

He built pagan altars in the Temple, the place that the Lord had said was where he should be worshiped.

He will be the one to build a temple for me, and I will make sure that his dynasty continues forever.

Watch over this Temple day and night, this place where you have chosen to be worshiped. Hear me when I face this Temple and pray.

The Lord said to him, “I have heard your prayer. I consecrate this Temple which you have built as the place where I shall be worshiped forever. I will watch over it and protect it for all time.

The altars which the kings of Judah had built on the palace roof above King Ahaz' quarters, King Josiah tore down, along with the altars put up by King Manasseh in the two courtyards of the Temple; he smashed the altars to bits and threw them into Kidron Valley.

The Lord said, “I will do to Judah what I have done to Israel: I will banish the people of Judah from my sight, and I will reject Jerusalem, the city I chose, and the Temple, the place I said was where I should be worshiped.”

‘From the time I brought my people out of Egypt until now, I did not choose any city in the land of Israel as the place to build a temple where I would be worshiped, and I did not choose anyone to lead my people Israel.

But now I have chosen Jerusalem as the place where I will be worshiped, and you, David, to rule my people.’”

Make an altar of earth for me, and on it sacrifice your sheep and your cattle as offerings to be completely burned and as fellowship offerings. In every place that I set aside for you to worship me, I will come to you and bless you.

The people of this city have made me angry and furious from the day it was built. I have decided to destroy it

They even placed their disgusting idols in the Temple built for my worship, and they have defiled it.

They have built altars to Baal in Hinnom Valley, to sacrifice their sons and daughters to the god Molech. I did not command them to do this, and it did not even enter my mind that they would do such a thing and make the people of Judah sin.”

“The people of Judah have done an evil thing. They have placed their idols, which I hate, in my Temple and have defiled it.

And that is not all they did. They profaned my Temple and broke the Sabbath, which I had established.

The very day that they killed my children as sacrifices to idols, they came to my Temple and profaned it!

Out of the territory of all your tribes the Lord will choose the one place where the people are to come into his presence and worship him.
