Good News Translation

Then Amaziah sent messengers to King Jehoash of Israel, challenging him to fight.

He ordered, “Take them alive, no matter whether they are coming to fight or to ask for peace.”

Everything else that Jehoash did, including his bravery in the war against King Amaziah of Judah, is recorded in The History of the Kings of Israel.

But Amaziah refused to listen, so King Jehoash marched out with his men and fought against him at Beth Shemesh in Judah.

When Amaziah returned from defeating the Edomites, he brought their idols back with him, set them up, worshiped them, and burned incense to them.

Arrogance causes nothing but trouble. It is wiser to ask for advice.

The start of an argument is like the first break in a dam; stop it before it goes any further.

When some fool starts an argument, he is asking for a beating.

Get good advice and you will succeed; don't go charging into battle without a plan.

Don't be too quick to go to court about something you have seen. If another witness later proves you wrong, what will you do then?

I wish I were leading this people! I would get rid of Abimelech! I would tell him, ‘Reinforce your army, come on out and fight!’”
