Good News Translation

but the Lord was kind and merciful to them. He would not let them be destroyed, but helped them because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He has never forgotten his people.

Then the Lord said, “I will not allow people to live forever; they are mortal. From now on they will live no longer than 120 years.”

The Lord became so angry with the people of Jerusalem and Judah that he banished them from his sight.

He will keep his covenant forever, his promises for a thousand generations.

He will keep the agreement he made with Abraham and his promise to Isaac.

For their sake he remembered his covenant, and because of his great love he relented.

Do not banish me from your presence; do not take your holy spirit away from me.

But God was merciful to his people. He forgave their sin and did not destroy them. Many times he held back his anger and restrained his fury.

But you, O Lord, are a merciful and loving God, always patient, always kind and faithful.

The Lord answered, “I will make all my splendor pass before you and in your presence I will pronounce my sacred name. I am the Lord, and I show compassion and pity on those I choose.

But after I have taken them away, I will have mercy on them; I will bring each nation back to its own land and to its own country.

He may bring us sorrow, but his love for us is sure and strong.

I will remember my covenant with Jacob and with Isaac and with Abraham, and I will renew my promise to give my people the land.

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Away from me, you that are under God's curse! Away to the eternal fire which has been prepared for the Devil and his angels!

The Lord will rescue his people when he sees that their strength is gone. He will have mercy on those who serve him, when he sees how helpless they are.

They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, separated from the presence of the Lord and from his glorious might,

So they got rid of their foreign gods and worshiped the Lord; and he became troubled over Israel's distress.
