The disciples decided that they each would send as much as they could to help their fellow believers who lived in Judea.

Paul and Barnabas got into a fierce argument with them about this, so it was decided that Paul and Barnabas and some of the others in Antioch should go to Jerusalem and see the apostles and elders about this matter.

Barnabas wanted to take John Mark with them,

For while I was with you, I made up my mind to forget everything except Jesus Christ and especially his death on the cross.

Which do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a whip, or in a spirit of love and gentleness?

And even though I am far away from you in body, still I am there with you in spirit; and as though I were there with you, I have in the name of our Lord Jesus already passed judgment on the man who has done this terrible thing. As you meet together, and I meet with you in my spirit, by the power of our Lord Jesus present with us,

I call God as my witness—he knows my heart! It was in order to spare you that I decided not to go to Corinth.

That is why I write this while I am away from you; it is so that when I arrive I will not have to deal harshly with you in using the authority that the Lord has given me—authority to build you up, not to tear you down.

I wrote you with a greatly troubled and distressed heart and with many tears; my purpose was not to make you sad, but to make you realize how much I love you all.

When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to come to me in Nicopolis, because I have decided to spend the winter there.
