We felt that the death sentence had been passed on us. But this happened so that we should rely, not on ourselves, but only on God, who raises the dead.

There is nothing in us that allows us to claim that we are capable of doing this work. The capacity we have comes from God;

Yet we who have this spiritual treasure are like common clay pots, in order to show that the supreme power belongs to God, not to us.

Abraham reckoned that God was able to raise Isaac from death—and, so to speak, Abraham did receive Isaac back from death.
